I came to Santa Barbara Recovery struggling with alcohol use disorder and honestly feeling lost and hopeless. I’ve been to several treatment centers before, but my experience at Santa Barbara Recovery was different in the best way. Spending 90 days there completely changed my life and gave me a second chance that I’ll always be grateful for. From the moment I arrived, the staff treated me with compassion, patience, and genuine care. The counselors, therapists, techs, and support staff created an environment where I felt safe enough to open up, be honest with myself, and really start working on my recovery. The groups were incredibly helpful and gave me tools that I still use every single day. One thing that really stood out to me was the bond that I built with both the staff and the other clients. There’s something powerful about being surrounded by people who truly understand the struggles that come with drugs and alcohol because they’ve either lived it themselves or have dedicated their lives to helping people through it. The connections I made during my time there felt genuine and unbreakable, and having that sense of community and support made a huge difference in my recovery. What also stood out to me was how personal and genuine the support felt. I never felt like just another client. The staff truly cared about helping me build a foundation for long-term sobriety, not just getting through treatment. One of the most important things Santa Barbara Recovery helped me with was getting involved in AA. Through the meetings and support they encouraged, I found a sponsor who is now guiding me through the 12 steps and helping me continue growing in sobriety outside of treatment. That sense of community and accountability has made a huge difference in my life. I especially want to give a huge thank you to Greg and Juan. Both of them were incredibly supportive, understanding, and always willing to listen when I was struggling. Their compassion, patience, and encouragement truly helped me through some difficult moments, and I’ll never forget the impact they had on my recovery journey. Recovery is not easy, but Santa Barbara Recovery gave me hope, structure, accountability, and a real support system when I needed it most. Today I’m sober, connected to recovery, and moving forward with a completely different outlook on life. I’m deeply grateful for everyone there and would highly recommend Santa Barbara Recovery to anyone who is serious about changing their life and getting sober.

This place helped change my life for the better . Being from the east coast I was in and out of different rehabs and facilities and nothing would stick with me . When I came out here , just the way they approach it and take you in as like your a family member. They helped me with so many assets of my life even beyond substance abuse. The camaraderie is 2nd to no where else . I’m forever grateful for this place and giving me a fresh start. Highly recommend.

I've spent the last five years in and out of rehab facilities, battling substance abuse. I spent three months at Santa Barbara Recovery, utilizing every resource they had. Taking in and putting to use all the information their comprehensive groups offered. The staff are knowledgeable, compassionate and go to any lengths to help you recover. The environment is safe and comfortable which is extremely important in early recovery. I'm going on seven months sober, working, and attending college to pursue my dreams in Animal Welfare. I can't even begin to express my gratitude to all the people who make this program a success. I'm so thankful for the opportunity to live life once again, clean and sober.

My time here at Santa Barbara Recovery truly changed my life.. When I came in, I was carrying a lot mentally, emotionally, and spiritually but the vibe and aura felt safe .. and Through some of the toughest moments, the staff didn’t just treat me like a client, they treated me like a human being who mattered, . They listened, they cared, and they showed up consistently.. even when I didn’t deserve it .. That kind of support is rare. The environment felt safe, structured, and real. They helped me slow down, face things I used to run from, and start building a healthier version of myself and taught me how to choose me and put me first … What makes Santa Barbara Recovery special is that the care feels genuine. It’s not just about sobriety it’s about growth, accountability, and learning how to live differently. The staff truly wants to see you win, and you can feel that. I’m grateful for the tools, the honesty, and the compassion I received there. It’s more than a program it’s a place that helped me get my life back on track.

If you’re willing to do the work and do what the program has to offer. You can change your life.

Aetna Insurance Coverage

Aetna was founded in 1850 and has become the third-largest health insurance provider. The national insurer was acquired by CVS in 2018, expanding treatment options within the drugstore for those insured through Aetna. Aetna rehab coverage helps reduce the cost of addiction treatment in various settings.

Aetna Substance Abuse Treatment Options

Aetna is one of many national insurance providers to cover addiction rehab specifically. Aetna’s substance abuse treatment is included in its HMO and PPO plans. You can expect to see the following types of addiction treatment covered to some extent:

1. Detox
2. Inpatient/Residential Rehab
3. Outpatient Rehab
4. Prescription Medications
5. Behavioral Therapy

Aetna Substance Abuse Guidelines

Aetna’s substance abuse guidelines follow the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s criteria for diagnosing alcohol and substance use disorders. While this is not an exhaustive list, you can expect your initial discussions with an addiction specialist to include the following questions, which help them determine what type of care your insurance may qualify you for:

1. How long have you been using the substance?
2. When was the last time you drank or used drugs?
3. Have you sought treatment previously?
4. Are you looking for long-term sobriety/recovery?

Addictions Covered Under Aetna Insurance Policies

With the passing of the Affordable Care Act, all insurance providers were mandated to cover behavioral and substance abuse treatments. While each patient’s policy is unique, you can expect to see the most common addictions covered under your Aetna policy:

1. Alcohol Abuse
2. Prescription Medication Abuse
3. Cocaine Addiction
4. Methamphetamine Addiction
5. Opiate Addiction
6. And more

Does Aetna cover mental health services?

The medical community has come a long way in recognizing addiction and mental illness. Both needing treatment to encourage long-term sobriety. Aetna may cover many popular treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization, and Reprocessing.

Aetna Medication-Assisted Treatment

While medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is not necessary for all clients, many, especially those struggling with opioid addiction, can find lasting recovery with a combination of prescription medications and behavioral therapy. Your specific plan will determine the exact medications Aetna covers. So long as you know your plan name and year, you can search for the particular medication coverage on their site.

Aetna Coverage: Paying for Rehab

While substance abuse treatment is deemed an essential service under the Affordable Care Act, the level of coverage offered by insurance companies will differ. Typically, you can elect for a higher coverage plan at an increased monthly cost or select a lower coverage plan at a reduced monthly cost.

What length of treatment does Aetna cover?

The length of treatment covered depends on the client’s personalized recovery plan and the setting in which they are receiving treatment. Approved Aetna residential treatment centers typically cover between 1-6 weeks of treatment, while approved Aetna outpatient treatment centers generally are covered for 4-12 weeks.
